Luis Angel Sanchez, a 3-year-old boy, was last seen on June 6, 2001, in Tracy, California. At the time, he lived with his mother, Katherine "Kitty" Sanchez, and her boyfriend, William Krumlinde, in a room at the Hacienda Inn motel. His disappearance went unreported for over a year, and it was only in July 2002 that authorities were informed of his absence. This delay raised concerns and prompted a thorough investigation.
Authorities soon determined that Luis had been a victim of foul play. Krumlinde was charged with his murder, and investigators believe that Luis was killed inside their motel room and later buried in a nearby field. Katherine was also charged with child endangerment and assisting in the disposal of Luis's body. She admitted to being intoxicated at the time and claimed she could not recall the exact location where her son's remains were buried. Despite searches, including one in August 2002 that uncovered bone fragments not related to Luis, his body has never been found.
Both Katherine and Krumlinde eventually pleaded guilty to their roles in the crime. Krumlinde was sentenced to 15 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter and child abuse, while Katherine received a sentence for being an accessory to murder.
