John Paul Wright, 34, disappeared on June 24, 2001, while spending the day on the Mississippi River near Winfield, Missouri, with his wife, their young son, and friends. The group’s boat ran out of gas and was anchored about 200 yards from shore near mile marker 238. While on the boat, Wright, who could not swim, went to the front to relieve himself and accidentally fell into the water. Despite efforts to rescue him, the river's high and fast currents swept him away.
