In the late summer of 2001, 28-year-old Gary Alan Larsen, a resident of La Pine, Oregon, vanished, leaving behind a life and a family who continue to seek answers. On September 16, 2001, Gary was last seen in the company of friends in Redmond, Oregon. The evening before, he and his friends had been out, spending some time at the Fireside Grille and Lounge. Their night concluded with breakfast at a Shari's Restaurant in Redmond in the early morning hours. After the meal, Gary reportedly drove a friend home. It was from this point that his trail went cold. He was driving a white 1995 Dodge pickup truck with Oregon license plate number XTN945, a vehicle that, like Gary, has never been seen again. Gary had recently moved from Redmond to live with his mother in La Pine but still maintained strong connections and frequented the Redmond area. At the time of his disappearance, he was unemployed, though he had previously worked for Hap Taylor & Sons Inc., which is now known as the Knife River Corporation. His family, after not hearing from him for eleven days, reported him as a missing person, initiating an investigation that has stretched on for years. Despite having many friends and acquaintances in the Redmond area, none have reported any contact with him since that September morning. The circumstances surrounding Gary Larsen's disappearance have led investigators to suspect foul play. It is known that he associated with individuals involved with drugs, but authorities have not been able to definitively link any of his acquaintances to his case. The complete absence of both Gary and his truck is a particularly troubling aspect of the investigation. The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office has kept his case open, classifying it as an endangered missing person case. Over the years, law enforcement has revisited the case, hoping to unearth new leads that might finally shed light on what happened to Gary Alan Larsen after he said goodbye to his friends and drove off into the early morning hours. His disappearance remains an unsolved mystery, a source of enduring pain and uncertainty for his loved ones.
