Michael Darnell Bell Jr., 25 years old, was last seen on September 16, 2011, in Los Angeles, California. The following day, his vehicle ran out of gas on Interstate 5 near Mendota, California, about four hours north of Los Angeles. A California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer encountered him at approximately 3:15 AM and gave him a ride to a nearby Chevron gas station at Panoche Road, but Michael was never heard from again after that interaction.
Bell had been preparing to travel to Cleveland, Ohio, to join his family, but after his disappearance, his relatives found his Los Angeles apartment undisturbed, with his personal belongings and food left in the microwave. His car, a blue 2002 Toyota Camry, was later located where it had run out of fuel. Investigators remain uncertain about where Bell was headed at the time, and his family has stated that it was highly uncharacteristic of him to leave without informing anyone.
Bell was involved with studying Scientology at the time but was not known to attend any specific religious services regularly. Despite ongoing investigations by both Fresno and Los Angeles authorities, the circumstances of his disappearance remain unclear, and the case is still unsolved.
