She arrived in Anchorage on October 9, 2012, and confirmed her safe arrival with her family around noon. However, this promising new chapter in her life took a dark and mysterious turn in less than 24 hours. In the early morning hours of October 10, 2012, Mary Anne made a distressing phone call to friends, stating that she was lost in the Spenard area of Anchorage. She sounded disoriented and her friends believed she may have been intoxicated. That phone call, made around 3 a.m., was the last time anyone is known to have heard from Mary Anne Alexie. The days that followed her last known contact were filled with growing concern. Mary Anne was known to be in daily contact with her family and children, so her sudden silence was alarming. When she failed to show up for her scheduled appointment at the career college, her family's worst fears began to set in. They quickly traveled to Anchorage to aid in the search and file a missing person's report with the Anchorage Police Department. Volunteers canvassed the Spenard neighborhood, a part of Anchorage known for its nightlife and higher crime rate, distributing fliers and searching for any sign of her. Law enforcement and volunteers conducted extensive searches in the areas surrounding where she was thought to be, including nearby lakes Hood and Spenard, along railroad tracks, and in wooded areas, but found no trace of the missing woman. Police also urged residents to check their properties, including sheds and outbuildings, for any sign of Mary Anne. Despite the efforts of her family, friends, and law enforcement, the case of Mary Anne Alexie's disappearance has grown cold, leaving behind a void of unanswered questions. Her disappearance is considered suspicious, and foul play is suspected. Mary Anne had a history of personal struggles, including a turbulent previous marriage and issues with alcohol, but she was reportedly determined to turn her life around for her children. Over the years, her family has continued to advocate for her, holding vigils and maintaining a social media presence to keep her memory alive and the search for answers ongoing. The lack of any significant leads or physical evidence has made this a particularly challenging case for investigators. The official investigation remains open, with the hope that one day, new information will surface and finally bring clarity to the fate of Mary Anne Alexie.
