The disappearance of Dashawn Leon McCormick is a distressing case that began in the spring of 2013 in Anchorage, Alaska. At the time he was last seen, Dashawn was a young boy of five years old. His mother, Jasmine McCormick, had her last contact with him during a visit to Anchorage before she returned to her home in the lower 48 states. Following this visit, a series of events unfolded that would obscure the young boy's whereabouts and lead to a long and painful search. Dashawn was in the legal custody of his father, Floyd L. Lee Jr., and was living with him and his girlfriend, Mary Transki, in Anchorage. The situation took a sharp turn when both Lee and Transki were arrested by the FBI on unrelated federal fraud charges. It was during the legal proceedings that followed their arrest that the absence of Dashawn was officially noted. Upon learning of the arrests, Jasmine McCormick petitioned a Palmer court for custody of her son, a request that was granted in December 2013. However, when authorities attempted to locate Dashawn to place him in his mother's care, he was nowhere to be found. The investigation into his disappearance revealed that there was no indication that any child, other than Mary Transki's two children, was living in the home at the time of the arrests. Authorities determined that Dashawn had not been seen or heard from since April 1, 2013. This official date marks the beginning of a years-long investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Anchorage Police Department, the FBI, and the Alaska State Troopers. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children also became involved, creating an age-progressed photo to show what Dashawn might look like as he grew older. The investigation into Dashawn's disappearance has been fraught with difficulties and conflicting information. Law enforcement conducted numerous interviews with family members and associates, but these efforts have not yet led to a breakthrough in finding him. Dashawn's father has reportedly been uncooperative in providing information about his son's whereabouts. There have been troubling claims that emerged during the investigation, including a witness who stated that Dashawn's stepmother had claimed to have killed the child and buried him on her property, a claim she has denied. Despite the passage of time, law enforcement agencies continue to actively search for clues and have reached out to the public for any new leads that could help solve the case. The case remains an open and active investigation, a painful and unresolved chapter for a mother who continues to hope for answers and for a community that has not forgotten the young boy with blond hair and brown eyes. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear, leaving a void of information and a lingering sense of sorrow.
