The video footage showed her leaving the store and heading in the direction of her home, just four miles away, but she never arrived. The day after Melvia was last seen, her white 2000 Dodge Caravan was discovered abandoned approximately 80 miles from her home. The vehicle was located between the 109 and 110-mile marker of Interstate 65 North, just south of Shepherdsville in Bullitt County. Several details about the state of the van raised immediate concern. The driver's seat was pushed all the way back, suggesting that someone much taller than the petite 5-foot to 5-foot-1 Melvia had been the last person to drive it. Inside the vehicle, investigators found her purse, but her wallet was missing. The ignition key was discovered broken into two pieces in different parts of the van, adding another layer of suspicion to the circumstances of her disappearance.
At the time of her disappearance, Melvia had blonde, shoulder-length hair with mild curls and blue eyes. She has several distinct tattoos, including 'Winnie the pooh' on her right forearm, two dolphins in the shape of a heart on her lower back, the Old English letter 'L' on her right leg, and the name 'Jamie' at the base of her neck. She was last seen wearing a bright green tank top, patchwork denim shorts, and black or blue flip-flops. Over the years, law enforcement, including the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, has continued to investigate her case, which they consider suspicious with a strong suspicion of foul play. Searches have been conducted based on tips, but sadly, no significant breakthroughs have been publicly announced.
