In the late summer of 2013, a sense of unease settled over a family in Memphis, Tennessee. On September 13th, 71-year-old John Hudak left his home for an afternoon walk and never returned. He was last seen in the 600 block of Riverside Drive. At the time of his disappearance, John was described as a white male, standing at 6 feet tall and weighing between 155 and 165 pounds. He had gray or partially gray hair and blue eyes. When he was last seen, he was wearing a plaid shirt, beige or khaki shorts, and white tennis shoes. The only personal belonging he had with him was his wallet. The days following John's disappearance were filled with confusion and worry for his wife, Joyce Hudak. She initially thought he might have traveled to Florida, where they had recently been looking at homes with the intention of moving closer to their children. Another possibility she considered was New Orleans, a city he was fond of. However, as time went on with no word and no activity on his financial accounts, the hope of a simple explanation began to fade. Joyce noted that while her husband had been dealing with some illnesses, his mind was still sharp before he went missing. The Memphis Police Department launched an investigation into John's disappearance, treating it as an unusual case. They entered his information into national missing persons databases and collected DNA samples from two of his closest relatives for potential comparison. A reward of $2,000 was offered by the family for any information that could lead to his whereabouts. The lack of any substantial leads has left his family in a prolonged state of uncertainty. The case of John Hudak remains an open and unresolved missing person's case, one of many that the Memphis Police Department continues to investigate.
