On September 1, 1995, 34-year-old Rory Neal Shoemaker embarked on a camping trip, leaving his parents' home in south Everett, Washington, with plans to meet friends at the Red Bridge Campground, situated east of Granite Falls. He was last seen wearing a short-sleeved gray T-shirt, a red baseball cap, black low-top tennis shoes, and possibly blue jeans. Rory was driving his distinctive white 1979 Datsun 210 two-door hatchback, which had a Washington license plate number of 205-AKX. The vehicle was also notable for having black louvers over the rear window, a damaged left front quarter panel, a "spider-web" cracked windshield, and one seat with a black and white checkered pattern. Rory never made it to the campground, and neither he nor his vehicle has been seen since. The days following Rory's failure to arrive at his destination turned into a long and agonizing wait for his loved ones. His disappearance was officially reported on September 6, 1995. Those close to him insisted that it was entirely out of character for Rory to leave without informing anyone of his whereabouts. The timing of his disappearance was particularly poignant as he was preparing for a significant life change; he had already packed his belongings with the intention of moving to Montana with his mother just a few days after he went missing. The fact that he was on the cusp of a new chapter makes his vanishing all the more perplexing and heartbreaking for his family. Over the years, the investigation into Rory Shoemaker's disappearance has remained open, handled by the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. Despite the passage of time, the case has not been forgotten, with detectives in the cold case unit continuing to seek answers. There have been tips suggesting that Rory may have been the victim of foul play, with some theories pointing to the possibility that he was murdered and buried inside his car, though these leads have never been substantiated. The lack of any physical evidence or contact has left his family in a state of limbo. The case of Rory Shoemaker is a somber reminder of the many individuals who disappear, leaving behind a void of unanswered questions and a family forever searching for closure. Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.
