In the early morning hours of January 14, 1996, 57-year-old Anna Blanche Frady was seen for the last time at JJ's Market in downtown Pikeville, Tennessee. A resident of Van Buren County, her home was located near the Bledsoe County line on Jack's Branch Road, a considerable distance of 11 to 12 miles from the market where she was last spotted. Compounding the mystery of her presence at the market is the fact that she did not possess a driver's license, leaving how she traveled there an open question. At the time she went missing, Anna was wearing blue jeans, a purple shirt, and a brown coat. Family members have described Anna as being ill and in need of medication at the time of her disappearance. This concern is heightened by a troubling encounter she had on the morning she vanished. An off-duty sheriff's deputy, who was also a relative, saw Anna at the market around 5:45 a.m. She reportedly asked him for a ride to Moccasin Bend, a mental health facility in Chattanooga. The deputy stated he was unable to transport her, and she was last seen walking on Highway 127, in the direction of Sequatchie County. She did not have her necessary medications with her when she disappeared. The years following Anna's disappearance have been filled with anguish and a determined search for answers by her family. Her son, David Pruitt, and his wife, Kimberly, have tirelessly pursued any potential leads. They have conducted their own searches, driving the routes Anna may have taken and exploring ditches and underbrush. Over the years, a few anonymous tips have surfaced, including mentions of a freezer being removed from her home and the local strip mining pits, but these leads have not resulted in any concrete discoveries. The family has also endured false hope, such as when a woman was found in Nashville who authorities initially believed could be Anna, but she turned out to be a much taller individual. Despite the passage of time and the lack of significant developments, the investigation into Anna Frady's disappearance remains open. Her daughter has provided a DNA sample to be entered into national databases for comparison against unidentified remains, and the family continues to hold out hope for closure.
