In the spring of 2015, a 25-year-old mechanical engineering student from Saudi Arabia named Mohammed Abdulmohsen Alghannam, known to his friends as Mo, traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana, for a brief getaway. He was a student at the University of Texas at San Antonio and lived with his sister in San Antonio, Texas. For three nights, he and his uncle stayed at the Extended Stay America hotel in Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans. During their stay, his uncle noted that Mohammed paid for his share of the hotel bill in cash, which was unusual for him as he typically used a debit or credit card for his expenses. This small detail would later become a point of concern in the narrative of his disappearance. The last confirmed sighting of Mohammed Alghannam was on the evening of March 28, 2015. At approximately 9:30 p.m., his uncle dropped him off near the vibrant and crowded Bourbon Street in the heart of New Orleans. After parting ways, his uncle began an overnight drive to Arkansas. Communication was not immediately lost, as the two exchanged text messages the following morning, March 29th. Mohammed was scheduled to take a Greyhound or MegaBus back to San Antonio, but it remains unclear if he ever boarded a bus or arrived back in Texas. He has not been seen or heard from since that final text message exchange. The days that followed his last known contact were filled with growing concern from his family and friends. When he failed to return to San Antonio and could not be reached, he was reported as a missing person. The San Antonio Police Department opened an investigation into his disappearance, a case that has left many questions unanswered. At the time he went missing, Mohammed was reportedly facing some academic challenges, and his student visa had since been terminated. However, his family has consistently stated that it was entirely out of character for him to vanish without a word. An avid photographer, he left behind his personal belongings and a life in San Antonio. Despite the passage of time and the efforts of law enforcement, the trail for Mohammed Alghannam has gone cold, leaving his loved ones waiting for answers. The case of the missing Saudi student who traveled to New Orleans for a short vacation and was never seen again remains an open and troubling mystery.
