Carol Frances Norton, a 25-year-old woman, disappeared on June 2, 1965, from El Cerrito, California. Described as slender and nearly blind, Carol was last seen at her trailer home. The next day, her sister visited and found the lights on and coffee still on the stove, but Carol was gone. Her disappearance led to suspicions, particularly involving her husband, Harvey Arnold Norton.
In July 1965, Harvey was arrested for robbing a Texas bank. When questioned about Carol, he claimed they had argued, and he left her at a motel in Portland, Oregon on June 14. However, Harvey's 1964 Lincoln was later discovered abandoned in Corpus Christi, Texas. The car contained bloodstained floor mats, human hair, and a shovel, raising concerns about Carol's fate.
Harvey's violent history further cast suspicion on him. In 1971, he was involved in a fatal incident in Marshall, Texas, where he killed a teenage boy and then took his own life. Given the suspicious circumstances of Carol's disappearance and Harvey's violent behavior, foul play is strongly suspected, though her body has never been found. Her case remains unsolved.
