His destination was the nearby village of Alakanuk, a journey across the vast and often treacherous terrain of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. However, Albert never completed his trip and his arrival in Alakanuk was never confirmed. The days that followed his departure were filled with growing concern, which soon prompted search efforts by those who knew him and local authorities. The search would lead to a grim discovery in the Yukon River. There, partially submerged in the frigid water, was Albert's snow machine. The scene offered a few clues: a hole was visible in the river ice, and floating in the water nearby were his white bunny boots and one of his black gloves. His family later confirmed that these items belonged to him. Despite this discovery, there was no sign of Albert himself. The Alaska State Troopers were notified of the situation and opened an investigation into his disappearance. The circumstances surrounding Albert Agathluk's disappearance suggest a tragic accident. It is believed that he may have fallen through thin ice while traveling on the river and drowned in the powerful current of the Yukon. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as being 5'5" tall and weighing around 145-160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was reportedly wearing a black Carhartt jacket and brown pants. Despite the recovery of his snow machine and some of his personal belongings, his body has never been found.
