He told family members he planned to go hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains, possibly starting in the Devil’s Punchbowl Recreation Area and heading south towards Highway 2. Despite extensive searches in the Angeles National Forest, covering areas like Wrightwood and Dawson Saddle, no trace of him was found.
