On May 24, 2016, a 28-year-old man named Brandon "Bubba" Perecz was last seen in Sultan, Washington. On that day, Perecz was outside the Sultan Library texting a friend for a ride. Law enforcement officials, who had outstanding warrants for his arrest, last saw him when he entered the water where the Sultan and Skykomish rivers converge. He was observed swimming and moving downstream with the current. This was reportedly not the first time he had used the river to evade law enforcement, having done so on at least three prior occasions. Perecz was wearing a blue sweatshirt, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes and may have had on yellow sunglasses. Brandon is described as a white male with red or auburn hair and hazel eyes. He stood at 6'1" and weighed between 180 and 215 pounds. He has several distinctive tattoos, including the name "Michaela" on his neck, "Naveah" and "HPC" on his chest, and "Perecz" on his back. Additionally, he has a cross tattooed on the knuckles of his left thumb and "187" on his left forearm. Perecz has scars on his lip and is missing cartilage from a previous fall, as well as stitches on his inner right arm. His family filed a missing person report on May 27, just days after he was last seen. Following his disappearance, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office initiated search efforts which included aerial surveillance and dive teams, but these efforts did not locate him. The family has voiced concerns regarding the communication and timing of the search operations. In late June 2016, a body was discovered in the Snohomish River, roughly 15 miles downstream from where Perecz was last seen. Initial descriptions of the clothing on the deceased matched what he was believed to have been wearing. However, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner later identified the remains as those of a female. As of today, Brandon Perecz remains a missing person, and his case is documented in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance continue to be a source of unanswered questions for his family and the community.
