Enrique Rios, a 16-year-old from Esparto, California, was last seen on October 16, 2016, at his home. His disappearance was initially treated as a runaway case because he had previously left home for short periods. Enrique's mother received text messages from his phone the day after he vanished, claiming he was staying at a friend’s house and later that he needed to "get away" for a while.
However, his family did not believe Enrique had actually sent those texts, as they were not consistent with his usual texting style. Enrique left behind personal belongings, including his identification card and last paycheck, and was never heard from again.
The case became even more alarming when Enrique's friend, Elijah Moore, disappeared three weeks later. Both boys attended the same school and were on probation from the same incident. Their disappearances were linked after investigators learned they were connected to a robbery of marijuana involving a group of individuals who later kidnapped both teens. Tragically, it was revealed through testimonies that Enrique had been killed shortly after his abduction in October 2016.
