On May 22, 2017, in Gig Harbor, Washington, 38-year-old Michael Jay Kittler vanished under perplexing circumstances from his own home. The day had been unremarkable; he had taken a nap and spoke casually with his girlfriend before stepping out onto the back porch for a cigarette. When his girlfriend went to check on him a short time later, he was gone. He had left without his cell phone or any personal belongings, except for his wallet. This sudden disappearance was entirely out of character for Michael, who had no history of leaving without notice or being out of touch with his loved ones for any significant length of time. At the time he went missing, he was wearing a dark-colored plaid jacket, blue jeans, and green Converse tennis shoes. He also had on a bandana under a DC brand beanie, a black leather bracelet, and a chain with a St. Michael and a skeleton pendant. Michael is described as a Caucasian male, standing at 5'8" and weighing between 140 and 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. His hair was shoulder-length and he was balding on top at the time of his disappearance. He has several distinctive tattoos that could aid in his identification. These include a black and white portrait of Benjamin Franklin on his left wrist, Old English script on his stomach, and his birthdate "5-14-79" along with the word "Taurus" on his right forearm. He also has the name "Gemma" tattooed on one of his forearms. His eyes are noted as being brown with gold flecks, almond-shaped, and with long, dark lashes. Prior to his disappearance, he was known to frequent the areas of Auburn and Tacoma and had connections to Kittitas County, Cle Elum, and Ellensburg. The investigation into Michael's disappearance has been ongoing, with the Gig Harbor Police Department continuing to seek answers. Years have passed since he was last seen, but the case remains open. A significant detail that emerged later was a pocket-dial made from his cell phone to his ex-girlfriend on the night he disappeared, possibly placing him in the vicinity of South 19th Avenue and Mildred Street in Tacoma. Despite this, he has not been heard from since. The perplexing nature of his vanishing from a place of comfort and security, leaving behind nearly all of his possessions, has left his family and friends in a state of prolonged uncertainty. The Gig Harbor Police Department has periodically renewed calls for public assistance, hoping that someone may have information that could finally shed light on what happened to Michael Jay Kittler.
