Crystal Liel Danley, 43, was last seen on June 18, 2017, in San Francisco, California. Before her disappearance, Crystal had been deeply affected by the death of her 22-year-old son, Avery, who drowned in the Morro Bay estuary in February 2016. In the months leading up to her disappearance, she had expressed guilt over her son's death and mentioned her desire to reunite with him. On the morning of June 18, she left a friend's home around 4:30 a.m.
in San Francisco's Sunset District, telling a friend she intended to go to Ocean Beach. Crystal left without taking any money, and there has been no activity on her bank accounts since that day.
Her white 1990 Ford Taurus was found abandoned near Ocean Beach later that month, with her purse and keys inside the car. Despite searches of the area and investigations, no trace of Crystal was found. Some friends and family believe she may have taken her own life due to her emotional struggles following her son's death, while her mother suspected foul play might have been involved due to her troubled history with an ex-boyfriend.
