Annette Anderson, 11, and her younger sister, Mylette, 6, went missing from their home in Jacksonville, Florida, on August 1, 1974. The two sisters were left alone at their residence around 6 p.m. while their mother and older sister went to care for a sick relative. Annette’s father called home around 7 p.m., speaking to his daughters, and everything seemed fine. However, when he called again at 7:20 p.m., there was no answer.
Upon his return, he discovered the girls were gone, and the family dog had been locked in a bedroom.
Neighbors reported seeing a white car in the driveway around the time the girls disappeared, but no one witnessed anything suspicious. The only items missing from the home were Mylette’s favorite doll. Despite extensive searches and efforts, no trace of the girls was found.
The case drew attention due to a string of similar disappearances in Jacksonville that year. Serial killer Paul John Knowles later claimed responsibility for abducting and killing the Anderson sisters, though police now believe his confession was likely false. No evidence supporting his claim was ever found, and the girls' case remains unsolved.
