In the spring of 1996, a sense of unease settled over the community of Edwardsville, Pennsylvania, following the disappearance of a 76-year-old woman named Angella Kislo. On April 16th, Angella, a resident of the Gateway Manor apartment complex, was seen for the last time. She departed from her home carrying only a prayer book and her apartment key, a detail that would later become a poignant part of the investigation. It was highly uncharacteristic for her to leave without her purse, which was discovered on the floor of her apartment. Inside the purse lay her identification and $200 in cash, items one would typically take when leaving home. Angella, who had gray hair and hazel eyes, was reportedly feeling depressed around the time she went missing. Those who knew her described her as a woman who did not drive and instead walked everywhere she needed to go. The days following Angella's disappearance turned into a focused search effort by law enforcement. A significant part of the investigation centered on the Susquehanna River. Search dogs were brought in, and they reportedly detected her scent in two separate locations: once under the Black Diamond railroad bridge and again about fifty feet downstream from that same bridge. This discovery prompted authorities to search the river for her body, but their efforts did not lead to any answers. Adding to the mystery, Angella's daughter informed investigators that her mother did not typically walk towards the bridge. Her usual route was in the opposite direction, a path that took her to St. Hedwig's Church. This information raised more questions about Angella's final known movements and intentions. Decades have passed since Angella Kislo walked out of her apartment, and her case remains unsolved. Despite the investigation and the troubling discovery of her scent near the river, she has never been found, and what happened to her on that April day is unknown. She is presumed to be deceased, but without her recovery, her family has been left without definitive answers. The investigation into her disappearance remains open, a lingering cold case in Luzerne County. The case of Angella Kislo is a somber overview of a vulnerable adult who vanished under unsettling circumstances. An elderly woman, reportedly struggling with depression, left her home with almost none of her personal effects and was never heard from again, leaving a mystery that has endured for years.
