In the remote village of Pilot Point, Alaska, a young man's disappearance has left a community with lingering questions. Gust William Griechen IV, a 25-year-old U.S. Army veteran, was last seen on the afternoon of April 27, 2017. He was observed at approximately 3:00 p.m. walking towards an area known as Dago Creek. At the time he went missing, he was wearing a dark blue Columbia coat, dark-colored trousers, and a pair of large blue stereo headphones. His disappearance would not be officially reported to the Alaska State Troopers for nearly two to three weeks. The circumstances surrounding Gust Griechen's disappearance are perplexing. He was scheduled to take a flight to Dillingham, Alaska, the day after he was last seen, but he never boarded the plane. Investigators found his luggage packed and ready for the trip inside his residence, suggesting he had intended to travel. Adding to the mystery, he had left his cell phone with another person before he vanished. Authorities conducted extensive searches, including aerial surveillance and the use of K9 units, but found no trace of him. Despite the search efforts, no signs of foul play were immediately suspected by the Alaska State Troopers. The investigation into Gust Griechen's whereabouts has been met with few leads. A year prior to his disappearance, in May 2016, Griechen had been the victim of a knife assault in King Salmon, and the case was still pending at the time he went missing. However, law enforcement officials have stated they do not believe this prior incident is connected to his disappearance.
