In the spring of 2018, 39-year-old Ericka Renee Hogg, a woman with an adventurous spirit, was in Selma, Oregon. On May 17th, she was last seen walking in the 7800 block of Deer Creek Road. At the time of her disappearance, Ericka was described as a White female, 5'6" tall, and weighing between 100 and 130 pounds. Her appearance was distinctive, with sandy, light brown hair styled in dreadlocks that had rainbow-colored highlights, and she had hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a green jacket vest and purple moccasins. A tattoo of a marijuana leaf on her right bicep was a notable feature. Ericka's family has described her as someone who had previously taken impromptu trips and had experienced homelessness. As days turned into weeks, a deep sense of unease settled in with Ericka's family. While she had a history of disappearing for periods, this time felt different. She missed her son's birthday and scheduled medical appointments, which was uncharacteristic of her. Furthermore, her disability benefits and medical card went unrenewed, and there was no activity on her bank account. Her sister, Rachel Carter, recalled a feeling of finality, stating, "I knew that I probably wouldn't see her again." The family's concern grew after receiving a call from Ericka's boyfriend, the last person known to have seen her, who was worried about her whereabouts. This prompted the family to take action, traveling to Oregon to conduct their own searches, hiking through the area, and walking the riverbanks in a desperate attempt to find any sign of her. They also hired a private investigator with search dogs to aid in their efforts. The official investigation into Ericka's disappearance has been handled by multiple agencies, including the Josephine County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon State Police. Despite the family's fears and the troubling circumstances, law enforcement has stated that they are investigating it as a missing person's case and that nothing indicates foul play. A year after she went missing, some of Ericka's belongings were reportedly found in the woods near where she was last seen by her boyfriend, which prompted another search by law enforcement, but yielded no new leads. For Ericka's loved ones, the lack of answers is a source of ongoing pain. Her family and friends have expressed concerns about a past volatile relationship and believe that someone may have harmed her. They continue to hold out hope for closure, whether that means finding her alive or learning what happened to her. The case of Ericka Hogg remains an unsolved and deeply felt mystery in the community of Selma, Oregon.
