Sofia McKenna, a 21-year-old woman from Groton, Connecticut, went missing on May 27, 2018. She was last seen in the early hours of that day when she and her friend, Spencer Mugford, ventured out near Avery Point. Initially, it was believed they were using a kayak or paddleboard, but authorities later confirmed they had taken a 14-foot sailboat without a mast.
