A man named Barry Bickford, who was romantically involved with her sister-in-law, was supposed to pick her up that day but claimed he couldn’t find her when he returned home. She has not been heard from since.

Her nephew tragically died a month after Janis vanished, and Bickford was convicted of manslaughter in his death.
