On a cold November day in 1999, 73-year-old McCombs Ligons vanished from his home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Mr. Ligons, who lived with his son, was last seen at his residence on Progressive Lane around noon on November 4th. Later that afternoon, when his son returned from work, he discovered his father was gone. At the time of his disappearance, Mr. Ligons was wearing a light blue shirt, dark blue pants, a dark blue jacket, and a baseball hat. Compounding the concern for his well-being was the fact that temperatures in the area had dropped below freezing.

McCombs Ligons was living with dementia, which may have caused him to become disoriented. His disappearance prompted an extensive search of the surrounding areas in an effort to locate him.
