A Dedicated Correctional Officer and Passionate Golfer
Jerrold “Jerry” Strege was a respected correctional officer at Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin, where he had served for 25 years. Known for his quiet demeanor and professionalism, Jerry was also an avid golfer, ranked 11th in the 2002 Wisconsin State Golf Association’s Player of the Year points list. He was eagerly anticipating a golf tournament scheduled for the weekend of October 5-6, 2002 .
The Day Jerry Disappeared
On October 2, 2002, Jerry completed his shift at the prison and left work as usual. However, he failed to appear for the anticipated golf tournament that weekend and did not return to work on October 8. Concerned by his absence, Jerry's father visited his apartment on October 9, finding it unlocked with the lights and television on, tuned to the Golf Channel. Jerry's personal belongings, including his wallet, keys, cell phone, and golf clubs, were present, but his firearm was missing.
