A Life Rooted in Koliganek
Ingvar Daniel Johansen III was a 28-year-old Native Alaskan man from Koliganek, a remote village nestled along the Nushagak River in Alaska's Dillingham Census Area. Born on March 18, 1990, Johansen stood 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed approximately 255 pounds. He had black hair and brown eyes. On the day of his disappearance, he was dressed for the harsh Alaskan winter: a black coat, blue ski pants with a white stripe, large camouflage-print winter boots, a seal fur hat, and black gloves. He was also carrying a .300 rifle on his back .

On January 18, 2019, Johansen set out on a snowmachine ride along the ice-covered river, approximately three to four miles south of Koliganek.
