On June 30, 1994, six-year-old Crystal Ann Tymich was playing outside near her family's home in the Hyde Park neighborhood of South Central Los Angeles. She was last seen between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m., wearing a pink t-shirt, floral-printed shorts, and white sneakers featuring The Little Mermaid. Crystal had been playing with her three older brothers, engaging in a game of throwing peaches over a neighbor's house. When their grandmother called them inside, the boys returned home, but Crystal did not follow. She vanished without a trace, and despite extensive searches, no substantial leads have emerged.
Following Crystal's disappearance, her family and neighbors conducted a frantic search before contacting the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). A large-scale search ensued, involving over 100 police officers and FBI agents. A localized tactical alert was issued, keeping officers on duty beyond their shifts. Despite these efforts, no clues were found, and the alert was canceled at 4:30 a.m. on July 1, 1994.
There are differing accounts of the events leading up to Crystal's disappearance. Some reports suggest she was riding bikes with her brothers, while others, including her brother Jeffrey, recall playing a game of throwing peaches. Neighbors reported seeing Crystal wandering off earlier that day and bringing her back to her brothers. Her mother mentioned that Crystal had previously talked about running away.
In 2005, the case received renewed attention when authorities searched the crawl space of a house across the street from the Tymich residence. This search was prompted by a tip regarding a suspicious burial of an animal shortly after Crystal's disappearance. Bones were found but were determined to be from animals. At the time of Crystal's disappearance, a female reverend lived in that house and often invited neighborhood children for religious services. Her identity remains unknown. ...Read More
