On July 4, 1956, the Young family from Monteview, Idaho, gathered at the Newel Steed Ranch near Widtsoe, Utah, to celebrate Independence Day. The ranch, owned by Vilate's maternal grandfather, was a bustling scene filled with relatives enjoying the holiday. Amidst the festivities, 15-month-old Vilate Kerreen Young was last seen watching a relative churn ice cream near one of the farm's outbuildings. Moments later, she had vanished without a trace.
Immediate Search Efforts
The disappearance prompted an immediate and extensive search. Family members scoured the area, and authorities were quickly notified. Bloodhounds were brought in and managed to track Vilate's scent for approximately 500 yards before losing the trail at a rural road.
