Dawn Marie Mozino was a 23-year-old woman from Wayne, Pennsylvania, known for her kindness, independence, and reliability. Despite being diagnosed with a learning disability that gave her the mental capacity of a 13- to 14-year-old, Dawn led a fulfilling life. She lived with her mother and sister but maintained her own phone line and bank account, showcasing her ability to support herself. Dawn was also actively involved in the Special Olympics, where she earned several medals, reflecting her determination and spirit.
On May 22, 1989, Dawn completed her shift as a hostess in the nutrition department at Bryn Mawr Hospital. She planned to take public transportation back to her home on Eaton Drive in Wayne, Pennsylvania. However, she never arrived home and has not been heard from since. A friend reported seeing Dawn speaking with a man named Thomas W. Hawkins Jr. near the hospital shortly before her disappearance.
Thomas W. Hawkins Jr. was a former coworker of Dawn's at the Paoli Rehabilitation Center in the mid-1980s. He had previously served six years in prison for the 1980 murder of a teenage girl. After his release, he sought employment at Bryn Mawr Hospital and had asked Dawn for assistance in securing an interview. Dawn's mother recalled that Hawkins had given her daughter rides from the bus stop near the rehabilitation center in the past.
In 1989, shortly after Dawn's disappearance, Hawkins was charged with the rape and murder of his 14-year-old niece. He was convicted and sentenced to death in 1990. Authorities offered to commute his death sentence to life imprisonment in exchange for information about Dawn's disappearance, but he denied any involvement. Despite the circumstantial evidence linking him to Dawn's case, Hawkins has never been charged in connection with her disappearance. ...Read More
