A Little Girl Disappears from Louisville
On April 2, 1983, three-year-old Michelle Marie Newton vanished from Louisville, Kentucky, in what was first described as a family move and later understood as a parental abduction. According to case records, Michelle’s non-custodial mother, 23-year-old Debra Leigh Curry Newton, left town with her daughter under the pretense of starting a new job and preparing a new home, but never came back, leaving Michelle’s father and extended family behind in shock and confusion.
A Father Left Behind and a Life Upended
Michelle’s father, Joe Newton, expected to follow his wife and child to Georgia after Debra reportedly went ahead to get settled. When he arrived later, they were gone.
