In the early hours of October 30, 2016, Chicago's Old Town neighborhood was shaken by a devastating act of violence that claimed the lives of twin brothers Edwin and Edward Bryant. At just 17 years old, these fraternal twins stood on the cusp of adulthood, their futures brimming with potential. As juniors at Marshall High School in East Garfield Park, they had recently transferred from Lincoln Park High School, eager to embrace new opportunities. Edward, a towering 6-foot-5 forward, was a standout on the basketball court, drawing attention from Division I college scouts. His coach, Vince Carter of the Chicago Demons youth basketball program, remarked on Edward's resemblance to Kevin Durant and his significant contributions to the team's victories in tournaments like the Bigfoot Classic in Houston and Las Vegas Live. Edwin, though he had shifted his focus away from basketball after middle school, remained an active and spirited presence among his peers. A Night of Unfathomable Loss
The tranquility of that October night was shattered around 3:15 a.m. Edwin and Edward were standing in the 1300 block of North Hudson Avenue when a dark-colored vehicle approached. Without warning, someone inside the car opened fire, striking Edwin in the chest and back, and Edward in the chest and head. Both were rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, but despite the medical team's efforts, Edwin was pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m., followed by Edward approximately an hour later.
