A Community Leader's Tragic End

On July 13, 2007, the tight-knit community of Immokalee, Florida, was shaken by the tragic murder of 60-year-old Homer G. Hassam. As the owner of the Fiesta Supermarket on Lake Trafford Road, Hassam was well-known and respected among locals. That fateful Friday afternoon, two men entered his store under the pretense of seeking employment. Engaged in renovations at the time, Hassam informed them to return in a week. However, the men came back shortly after, and during a confrontation, one of them fatally shot Hassam before stealing his wallet.
