A Scholar of the North: Richard Condon’s Arctic Legacy
Richard Guy Condon, born in 1952 in Plainfield, New Jersey, was a distinguished cultural anthropologist specializing in Inuit societies. After earning his bachelor's degree with honors in anthropology from Rutgers College in 1974 and a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1981, Condon dedicated his career to studying the lives of Arctic Indigenous peoples. His fieldwork spanned regions including Holman, Victoria Island in Canada's Northwest Territories, northern Alaska, and Baffin Island. Condon's research focused on Inuit adolescent development amid modern societal changes, contributing significantly to the understanding of Inuit economy, ethnohistory, and the impact of media on Canadian Inuit communities. His notable publications include "Inuit Behaviour and Seasonal Change in the Canadian Arctic" and "Inuit Youth: Growth and Change in the Canadian Arctic" .
