A Routine Evening Turns Tragic
On the evening of June 28, 2017, the Washington Park neighborhood on Chicago's South Side was the scene of a devastating event. At approximately 10:30 p.m., 32-year-old Jeanine Dowell and 41-year-old Juliet Washington were seated in a red SUV, stopped at a traffic light near the intersection of Garfield Boulevard and Wabash Avenue. Without warning, an assailant from another vehicle opened fire, fatally wounding both women. Their vehicle subsequently rolled onto the sidewalk, coming to a halt as the assailant fled the scene.
Victims Remembered
Juliet Washington, a resident of Woodridge, had dedicated 17 years to the U.S. Postal Service, working as a mail carrier in Westmont. She was a devoted mother of two children. That evening, she had traveled to Chicago to prepare dinner for her daughter, a testament to her nurturing spirit.
