Ernest Sanford, aged 28, was fatally shot on June 13, 2010, in Chicago's South Side. Sanford was killed on the sidewalk in front of an abandoned building on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The area where the shooting took place was described as neglected, with overgrown grass and litter, including empty liquor bottles and remnants of police tape.
