On the afternoon of July 26, 2020, Andrew Williams, a 29-year-old Black man, was fatally shot outside his home in Evanston, Illinois, just hours before his 30th birthday celebration. As he approached a friend's car to retrieve ice for the party, two masked individuals confronted him, blocking his entry into the vehicle.
