Death by Force

Devonte D. Carthan, aged 17, was shot and killed on August 13, 2014, in the Roseland neighborhood on Chicago's Far South Side. The incident took place at around 10:30 p.m. near the 10900 block of South Vernon Avenue. Carthan was standing outside when an unknown assailant approached and fired shots, striking him in the chest. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
