Deon Gilbert, a 15-year-old boy, was fatally shot on November 7, 2014, while walking with a friend in the South Deering neighborhood of Chicago. He was struck by a single gunshot in the abdomen near Trumbull Park. Gilbert, who had aspirations of becoming an architect and playing football, was deeply involved with his church and attended Butler College Prep.
His tragic death added to the ongoing issue of gun violence that affects Chicago’s youth, leaving a community and family mourning the loss of a promising young life.
