In the early hours of a February morning in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the life of 50-year-old Tony Morgan, a male known to many as "Fast Tony," was tragically cut short. On February 5, 2017, Morgan was shot and killed at a residence on Ivy Place SW. His death prompted an immediate and intensive investigation by the Albuquerque Police Department.
The investigation quickly led authorities to a primary suspect, 27-year-old Raymond Ortiz.
A warrant was issued for Ortiz's arrest on a murder charge. The manhunt for Ortiz concluded the following morning in Espanola, New Mexico, approximately 90 miles north of Albuquerque. Acting on information, New Mexico State Police and the Albuquerque Police Department's SWAT team converged on a Motel 6. After a standoff, Ortiz was taken into custody without further incident. He was subsequently booked into the Santa Fe County Jail.
During the arrest of Ortiz, a 28-year-old woman named Victoria Pearson was also found in the motel room. She was initially arrested and charged with harboring a fugitive. However, after providing a statement to investigators, Pearson was released. Authorities noted that she remained a person of interest in the ongoing investigation, and charges could be refiled at a later date if more evidence came to light. The motive for the fatal shooting was not immediately released by law enforcement.
