On March 4, 2021, a tragic incident occurred at the Imperial Inn Motel located on Central Avenue in Albuquerque, New Mexico, resulting in the death of Frank Brown, a 46-year-old man. The events unfolded when Brown was walking to his car from one of the rooms at the motel. According to witnesses, a car pulled up, and a male and female exited the vehicle. These individuals, later identified as suspects, approached Brown and attempted to rob him.
During this confrontation, shots were fired, leading to Brown's fatal injury.
The investigation into Brown's homicide was complex and involved the meticulous work of the Albuquerque Police Department's newly created Digital Intelligence Team. A key breakthrough came when the police arrested a female offender named Jaeline Miera on March 17, 2021, for a separate homicide. During this arrest, Miera's cell phone was seized as evidence. In March 2022, the APD's Digital Intelligence Team analyzed Miera's phone records and identified an individual named Samuel Jackson, with whom Miera had been in contact around the time of Brown's murder.
Samuel Jackson, a 29-year-old man, was subsequently identified as a prime suspect in the case. Through Jackson's digital footprint, investigators were able to trace his movements and locations, including visits to the Imperial Inn Motel in March 2021. Notably, Jackson's phone registered its location at the Imperial Inn on the night of the homicide. This evidence, combined with witness statements, strongly implicated Jackson in the crime.
Upon being interviewed by detectives, Jackson admitted to being present at the scene of the crime. He also revealed that he had possessed a silver. 32 caliber Taurus firearm, which he claimed was stolen from him days after the homicide. This admission, along with the digital evidence and witness accounts, solidified the case against Jackson.
On May 5, 2022, Samuel Jackson was arrested and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center. He was charged with multiple offenses, including Murder, Armed Robbery, and Conspiracy. Jackson had previously been listed as one of APD's ALeRT offenders, indicating his history of involvement in serious crimes.
The arrest of Samuel Jackson marked a significant milestone in the investigation, bringing a measure of closure to the family and loved ones of Frank Brown.
