In the quiet darkness of a Southeast Albuquerque neighborhood on May 5, 2022, the life of 29-year-old Hispanic male Jesus Tomas Lopez was tragically cut short. That night, officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Buena Ventura and Garcia St. NE following a Shot Spotter activation, a system designed to detect gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Lopez lying in the street, having sustained fatal injuries. Despite immediate rescue efforts, he succumbed to his wounds at the scene.
