An argument over a barking dog escalated into a fatal encounter on a June morning in Albuquerque, leading to the death of Michael Sanchez. Just as he was about to begin a new chapter in his career with a promotion to manager at a car dealership, the 27-year-old’s life was cut short. The dispute with his neighbor, Ricardo Villanueva-Cordova, over a dog had been ongoing, with Sanchez having filed two reports with animal control due to the dog's aggressive behavior.
On the morning of June 18, 2013, after another night of being disturbed by the barking, Sanchez approached Villanueva-Cordova to discuss the issue before heading to work.
Following the confrontation at their mobile home park, Villanueva-Cordova followed Sanchez to a local Valero gas station.
