On April 19, 2021, a young Hispanic man named Anthony Xavier Vigil, aged 22, was killed in a violent encounter in southwest Albuquerque, New Mexico. The incident unfolded as a car chase, culminating in a double homicide that also claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy whose name was not released.
Authorities from the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene to find a dark-colored sedan had been in a roll-over crash.
Inside the vehicle, they discovered Vigil and the teenage boy, both of whom had sustained apparent gunshot wounds. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a white sedan with two or three occupants pursuing the car carrying Vigil and the younger victim. These witnesses also stated that they observed shots being fired from the pursuing vehicle at the car that ultimately crashed.
The investigation into the double homicide was immediately launched by the Sheriff's Office, which began the process of gathering evidence and pursuing leads. While the motive for the chase and the shooting was not immediately clear, investigators assured the public that they were diligently working to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for the deaths of Anthony Vigil and the unnamed teenager. The authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with this case.
