On November 7, 2021, 26-year-old Martesse Patterson, a former offensive lineman for the Duke City Gladiators, was fatally shot near Central Avenue and Pennsylvania Street in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Patterson, who wore jersey number 71 during the 2021 season, had recently moved to Albuquerque and planned to make it his permanent home.
