Rocky John Weekes Sr., a 31-year-old male from Chicago, Illinois, was fatally shot on September 8, 2015, in the Old Irving Park neighborhood. The incident occurred around 3:05 a.m. in the 3300 block of North Keeler Avenue. According to reports, Rocky Weekes, who was unarmed, approached an individual identified as Daniel Guana. Guana then pulled out a dark-colored revolver and fired two to three times, striking Rocky Weekes in the abdomen and leg.
Despite efforts to escape, Rocky Weekes succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
At the time of the shooting, a relative of Rocky Weekes witnessed the incident and identified Daniel Guana as the shooter, noting his distinctive long hair and facial tattoo. However, Guana was not immediately questioned by authorities. It wasn't until July 2020, nearly five years later, that cold case detectives re-interviewed the relative, who consistently identified Guana as the perpetrator. Guana was arrested upon his release from the Shawnee Correctional Center, where he had been serving time for an unrelated attempted burglary conviction. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Rocky Weekes and held on a $250,000 bail.
Rocky Weekes was a father of four and was engaged at the time of his death. He was described by loved ones as a "loving father" and a "fighter till the end." His untimely passing left a significant void in the lives of his family and friends.
