Black male Marquis Adams, 31, was discovered just before dawn on September 20, 2015, slumped inside a car parked in an alley off the 11700 block of South LaSalle Street in Chicago's West Pullman neighborhood.
Officers had been dispatched at about 5:25 a.m. to a call of shots fired; when they reached the narrow lane, they found the 31 year old with multiple gunshot wounds in the vehicle's interior, the alley still hushed and empty around him.
He was rushed to Roseland Community
Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:04 a.m. An autopsy determined he died of a gunshot wound to the torso, and authorities listed his residence as the 4400 block of Ascott Court in south suburban Richton Park.
In the hours after the shooting, the scene in West Pullman yielded few public clues about why the attack happened or who might have been waiting in the shadows of the alley that morning.
Police accounts released in the immediate aftermath offered no description of a shooter, and news reports at the time did not mention any arrests. Detectives opened a homicide investigation as the case joined the city's grim ledger of 2015 killings, but authorities did not publicly identify a suspect in the early reporting that followed.
