On a spring night in Davenport, Iowa, the life of 19-year-old Michael Williams was cut short by gunfire. It was the evening of May 7, 2011, and a rap concert at the Col Ballroom had drawn a crowd. Inside the venue, tensions flared, leading to a physical altercation involving multiple people. Following the fight, the conflict spilled outside, and in the ensuing chaos, shots were fired.
Michael Williams was struck by a bullet and sustained a fatal wound.
The investigation into the shooting led to several arrests. One of the primary suspects identified was Robert Steffon Darnel Williams, who was apprehended in Chicago nearly a year after the incident. He was charged with first-degree murder. Another man, Tresvour "Trezzie" Robertson, was also arrested and faced the same charge of first-degree murder. A third individual, Cazmiere Graves, was initially charged in connection with the murder but later reached a plea agreement, pleading guilty to intimidation with a dangerous weapon in exchange for his cooperation with law enforcement.
Court testimony from Graves painted a clearer picture of the events that transpired that night. He stated that after a fight broke out inside the concert, he, Robert Williams, and Robertson left the venue and got into a vehicle. As they were driving, they encountered a group of people, including individuals who had been involved in the earlier altercation. It was at this point that Robert Williams allegedly retrieved a handgun and fired multiple shots from the vehicle, one of which fatally wounded Michael Williams. The alleged shooter was not related to the victim.
