Railyana Vasquez, a one-year-old toddler, was tragically killed on November 8, 2016, in Chicago. Her death was the result of a violent incident involving her mother's boyfriend, Uriel Vega. According to the investigation, Vega had been entrusted to take care of Railyana while her mother attended church. Instead of caring for her, Vega assaulted the child, which ultimately led to her death.
Reports state that Vega began by throwing the child across a room and then proceeded to stomp on her stomach. The injuries sustained by Railyana were severe, including multiple internal injuries such as a lacerated liver and severed arteries. Despite calling 911 when he noticed the child struggling to breathe, she was pronounced dead soon after arriving at the hospital. The Cook County Medical Examiner confirmed that her death was caused by multiple injuries consistent with child abuse, classifying it as a homicide.
