On December 11, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., 75-year-old Earl Rhue was fatally shot in East Oakland, California. Rhue had been visiting family friends, Maria Rosa Keys and her daughter, Maria Martens, to watch a Golden State Warriors game. During halftime, he stepped outside to his car for a smoke break. Shortly after, gunshots were heard, and Rhue was found with gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
